Distribution of Ixodes ricinus ticks and prevalence of tick-borne encephalitis virus among questing ticks in the Arctic Circle region of northern Norway.

The authors have identified Ixodes ricinus populations in Northern Norway located 190 to 130 km south of the Arctic Circle. Up to 9% of adult ticks were infected with TBE virus in a region from where no human TBE cases have been reported and thus, TBE virus appears to have a larger geographical distribution than previously thought.
