„The disease in Pottschach (Editors’ note: a small village in Lower Austria
near the district city of Neunkirchen) affected mainly three families, who
lived far apart from each other, as well as their servants and only individual
neighbors; two families (B. and N.) who operated shops open to the public
as locksmith and baker; the farmer family St. supplied a large part of the
village with milk from their own production. Therefore the first impression
was that there was a typhoid fever epidemic with an explosive emergence
of disease cases. The incubation period seems to be most obvious with
family B. where the husband fell ill 14 days after his wife.“
